Does The Social History Archive support using both IP address and SSO authentication concurrently?
Understanding how SSO and IP authentication interact and which method takes precedence
Institutions can have both SSO and IP authentication configured, guaranteeing seamless access wherever the user is.
SSO Access
- If the user’s institution uses SSO, authentication is handled via SSO.
IP-Based Access (Without SSO)
- If the user’s connection originates from a supported IP range but SSO is not available, authentication is handled via IP.
SSO and IP Both Applicable
- If both SSO and IP authentication criteria are met, SSO takes precedence — except when the user arrives via a deep link.
No Access
- If the user does not meet the criteria for either SSO or IP access, no access is granted.
